Back then, JWT Dual POP was the only product of its kind... and it wasn't a very "good" product on account of driveability issues (thanks to the dummy-MAF arrangement). If you had an assload of power, it was a way to get more, but it had its downsides and the gains weren't as significant due to the lack of proper air measuring. Now that the technology allows us to get an accurate air intake reading (which is paramount), it's not a bad idea for any Twin Turbo.
